6 Year Plan

Secondary 6 Year Plan; 7th-12th Grade

WELCOME to Secondary!!  The middle school years are a valuable time of laying the ground work for entering and succeeding in high school with excellence!!  Partnering with the secondary teachers at PCS is so important to the academic life of the student.  Here are some important key actions for success in middle school at PCS:

7th Grade Plan

7th grade is a transition year where more study skills are introduced and expected by the teachers to prepare students for high school.  Students are now changing classes and have multiple teachers, so listening, communicating and following directions is elevated to a new level.  Parents have less requirements for teaching assignments, but still have the requirement of overseeing their student and helping their student with:  time management, verifying work is completed in a timely manner on each and every home day, directions are followed completely on lesson plans, providing a study atmosphere free from distractions on home days, administering home tests, providing tutoring if needed, helping the student develop study skills, encouragement, etc.

7th Grade Classes:  English 7, Math 7/Pre-Algebra*, Life Science, World History, and Bible.

*Students may test into the accelerated math track and test into the track at the end of 6th grade; see math teacher for more info.

  •       Standardized testing for Grades K-9th is administered in May.

Goals:

  •       Maintain the highest grades to the student’s ability.
  •       Work on developing time management, note taking, study and testing skills.
  •       Work on communication skills with parents, teachers and administrators.
  •       Work on developing a personal relationship with their Lord, family, classmates, community, country and world.

For more information regarding the 7th Grade Plan, please feel free to meet with the guidance counselor.

8th Grade Plan

8th grade is a great time to under gird the skills that the student has developed thus far and put the finishing touches to them for preparation of High School.  Parent and student requirements are the same as 7th Grade.

Students and Parents are encouraged to being thinking about the strengths and talents of the student and pray about their post high school decision.  A class trip to the Kennedy Space Center is tentatively planned for the 8th grade class each year, and has proven to be academically valuable, as well as built unity with the class.

8th Grade Classes:  English 8, Pre-Algebra/Algebra I Honors*, Earth & Space Science, American History, and Bible.

*Please note that this class counts for High School Credit, and should be taken very seriously as the final grade for each semester  will be reported to the High School Transcript.

  •      Standardized testing for Grades K-9th is administered in March.

Goals:

  •     Maintain the highest grades to the student’s ability.
  •     Work on developing time management, note taking, study and testing skills.
  •     Work on communication skills with parents, teachers and administrators.
  •      Identify and build on the student’s talents, gifts, strengths, goals, dreams and aspirations.

Welcome to high school and enjoy the journey!!  These are the most important years in the secondary since all activities lead up to the college application process.  All grades for each semester are documented and count towards a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).  This GPA will be very instrumental in receiving approval for dual enrollment, approval to play sports, scholarships, and college acceptance.  Starting off 9th grade with a weak GPA can hinder a lot of opportunities later, so get the best start in high school possible.
